Caring for Your Jewelry
To keep your jewelry looking its best, follow these simple care tips:
- Avoid Exposure: Keep your jewelry away from chemicals, perfumes, lotions, and household cleaners, as these can damage the metal and gemstones.
- Remove During Activities: Take off your jewelry before swimming, showering, or engaging in sports to prevent damage and loss.
- Proper Storage: Store your pieces individually in soft pouches or a jewelry box to prevent scratches and tangling.
Metal Sensitivities
Some individuals may experience reactions to certain metals. Common sensitivities include:
- Nickel: Can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. Opt for nickel-free jewelry.
- Brass: May cause discoloration or skin reactions in some people. Coating brass jewelry with a layer of clear nail polish can help prevent this.
- Silver and Gold: Generally hypoallergenic, but some alloys may contain trace amounts of nickel.
Preserving Your Jewelry
- Regular Cleaning: Clean your jewelry regularly with a soft cloth. Use mild soap and water for deeper cleaning, but avoid soaking porous gemstones.
- Polishing: Use a jewelry polishing cloth to maintain the shine of your metal pieces.
- Professional Maintenance: Periodically have your jewelry checked and cleaned by a professional to ensure settings and clasps are secure.
By following these guidelines, you can enjoy your jewelry for many years, keeping it as beautiful as the day you first wore it.
