Hello, I’m Smadar.
I’m honored to share my personal fertility story with you. My journey to becoming a mother for the second time wasn’t straightforward; it was filled with challenges, but also with small moments of hope, strength, and self-belief that helped me along the way.
The First Chapter: Becoming a Mother for the First Time
I didn’t always struggle with fertility. When I had my first son, Jonathan, at age 29, the pregnancy came naturally enough. Although I experienced a miscarriage beforehand, I didn’t consider myself someone with fertility issues. But everything changed a few years later when I got divorced at 33. I found myself deeply desiring to rebuild my family and experience the joy of motherhood once again.
Rebuilding the Dream: Facing Fertility Challenges
Life, of course, doesn’t always go as planned. Finding a new partner while dealing with the pressure of my biological clock and the inner urgency to conceive felt overwhelming. One day, feeling especially frustrated, I sat in a corner café in Tel Aviv. As I sipped my coffee, I grabbed a red marker and sketched a small drawing on a napkin—a doodle of sperm racing toward an egg. This little drawing became a symbol of my journey and eventually a piece of jewelry.
Meeting My Daughter’s Father and Embracing New Challenges
Not long after, I met the man who would become the father of my daughter, Gal. We didn’t spend many years together, but during our time as a couple, we tried to conceive naturally. When it didn’t happen, we faced new challenges together. At 41, my gynecologist noted that my age could be a factor and recommended fertility treatments to help us on our journey.
Staying Positive: Drawing Strength from Small Reminders
During this waiting period, I did everything I could to remain hopeful and calm. I found inspiration in IVF success stories shared by other women, who reminded me that patience, strength, and faith were key. I took the jewelry piece I’d created from that napkin sketch and began wearing it close to my heart as a reminder of my dream to become a mother once again.
Lifestyle Changes: Honoring My Body and Mind
I decided to change my lifestyle—quit smoking, stopped drinking, and focused on eating healthily. I found every possible way to stay balanced, both physically and mentally. I also began listening to empowering mantras that reminded me daily: “I am healthy, I am capable of conceiving, my body knows how to hold a pregnancy.”
A Breakthrough Moment: IVF and the Gift of New Life
When the first wave of COVID subsided, fertility services resumed, and we immediately scheduled our IVF treatment. To our joy and surprise, the pregnancy took on the first attempt, and nine months later, our sweet daughter, Gal, was born.
Embracing Symbols of Strength on the Journey
This journey was filled with challenges, but it taught me that faith, inner strength, and even small symbols like the jewelry I wore close to my heart can make a meaningful difference. Initially, I created the talisman as a personal reminder of my own dreams, but along the way, I came to realize it could also remind others of the power within us all—the power to shape our reality and nurture the dreams we hold close.
